Kindergarten and 1st Grade Coed Clinics Basketball
This program will be coed, age 5 and 6, players are still trying to understand how to make their bodies do specific physical movements. Generally speaking most kids are learning how to develop fine motor skills, while pushing themselves to learn new gross motor skills. Basketball at this age must be tailored to setting the stage for all of the movements and reactions that are the fundamental actions on a basketball court. This will be a 12 week program in a clinic format. The program will be run by a Coordinator designated by the Board of Directors, with the express purpose of encouraging parents to participate and learn along with their children. Baskets will be at the 8'-0" height.
Activities will
include:
- warm-up
type drills that introduce particular movements and sequences of movements
- dribbling
drills, stationary and in motion
- passing
drills
- shooting
drills that teach them the fundamentals of shooting relative to their physical
strength
- rules
such as traveling, double dribble, and contact fouls
- the
triple threat
- general
defensive concepts ( stay between the person you are guarding and the basket )
The year will end with 2 weeks of 4v4
scrimmages, introducing the players to next level concepts of team play.
